Philippines Deports 115 Chinese Nationals Arrested in Scam-Hub Raids in Zamboanga Sibugay and Quezon City

Manila — The Philippine Bureau of Immigration deported 115 Chinese nationals on Friday, November 6. They had been arrested in two major October raids on scam hubs in Zamboanga Sibugay province and Quezon City. The bureau said the deportees boarded China Southern Airlines flight CZ5308 bound for China at 10 a.m. from Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.
According to the bureau, 62 of the deportees were arrested on October 2 in Zamboanga Sibugay in Mindanao, and 53 were arrested on October 12 in Cubao, Quezon City, in Metro Manila. The deportation was carried out after the bureau's Board of Commissioners issued summary deportation orders for all of them.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the deportation underscored the bureau's commitment to ensuring that foreign nationals involved in illegal activities face the consequences of their actions. He vowed to keep strengthening the bureau's enforcement operations and its coordination with local and international law enforcement partners against illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) operations, online scams and other transnational crimes.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed a crackdown on scam hubs and illegal offshore gaming, and the Philippines has codified its POGO ban in the Anti-POGO Act. In a separate case reported by GSM this week, police raided a Pasay City scam hub on November 3 and registered 166 rescued foreign nationals, including 10 Chinese, showing that the sweep against scam and offshore-gaming hubs is continuing.
