Google Takes Over Crusoe's Wyoming Data Center Site, Speeding Its $17 Billion Cheyenne Campus

CHEYENNE, Laramie County, Wyoming - Google on November 6 took over the data center site in southeastern Wyoming that artificial intelligence infrastructure company Crusoe had been developing, moving directly ahead with its first data center campus in the state. Crusoe confirmed the handover on November 6 but did not disclose the price. Just a day earlier, Google had announced a $17 billion investment to build its first data center campus in Laramie County, near Cheyenne. Google said the campus will be built with Tallgrass Energy, Black Hills Energy, American Electric Power and Related Digital; Google will cover the full cost of the campus's electricity and will use air cooling to reduce local water demand. The project includes a 702-megawatt fuel cell power plant with carbon capture and storage, described as the largest of its kind planned. Google expects the project to bring hundreds of millions of dollars in local property taxes to Laramie County and School District 1, and will form a community board with its partners to manage growth issues the campus brings to the Cheyenne area. The power agreement was signed on September 30, with electricity expected to begin flowing by the end of 2027, the fuel cell units in service by the end of 2028 and the campus reaching full power load by 2030.
