Massachusetts Puts $31.2 Million into Child Care Assistance: About 2,100 More Children to Receive Contracted Seats or Vouchers

Saturday, November 7, 2026 · States · GSM News

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey announced on November 5 a $31.2 million expansion of the state's Child Care Financial Assistance (CCFA) program, expected to reach about 2,100 additional children. The funding comes from the fiscal 2026 Fair Share supplemental budget.

The money will flow through two channels: contracted seats with child care providers and vouchers issued to families. The state said placements will prioritize families who have waited longest on the waitlist.

The expansion includes dedicated support for the children of early educators themselves: about 580 children of child care workers will receive seats. State figures show more than 2,000 educators' children are currently waiting for assistance, so this round covers roughly 26 percent of them - aimed at the circular problem of child care staff who cannot take a job because they cannot find care for their own children.

Early Education and Care Commissioner Amy Kershaw said the expansion will directly ease family budgets and stabilize child care supply. Eligible families can check and apply through the state's CCFA page at mass.gov and the MyChildCareMA system. (Source: Office of the Governor of Massachusetts)
