Maine Governor-Elect Pingree Names Transition Committee: Former Republican State Senator and Wabanaki Alliance Director to Co-Chair

Maine Governor-elect Hannah Pingree announced her transition committee on November 5: former Republican state senator Roger Katz and Wabanaki Alliance Executive Director Maulian Bryant will co-chair a volunteer committee helping to select a cabinet and prepare the new administration.
Katz served four terms in the state senate, was previously mayor of Augusta, the state capital, and now chairs the University of Maine System board of trustees. Bryant, a former Penobscot Nation ambassador to the state, leads the Wabanaki Alliance, which represents Maine's Indigenous peoples. The transition team said the pairing reflects a cross-party, cross-sector approach to building the administration.
Pingree met outgoing Governor Janet Mills on November 6, and Mills pledged a smooth handover. Pingree said every position in the new administration will be filled through individual interviews rather than by assumption.
Pingree is no stranger to the Blaine House machinery: from 2019 to 2025 she directed Mills' Governor's Office of Policy Innovation. She will become Maine's 76th governor and is scheduled to take the oath of office on January 6, 2027. The committee will now help complete cabinet selections and department-by-department transition preparations. (Source: Maine Governor-Elect Transition Team)
