Japan Unveils 10 Billion Yen Emergency Cybersecurity Package: Takaichi Says Breaches Are Hitting Daily Life

Saturday, November 7, 2026 · World · GSM News

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi announced a 10 billion yen (about 63 million US dollars) emergency cybersecurity package at a ministerial meeting on November 6, after months in which dozens of major companies and government agencies suffered unauthorised access and leaks of client data. Takaichi said cases of unauthorised access and data breaches are occurring at this very moment, with a major impact on people's daily lives and corporate activities.

The package uses artificial intelligence in defence and creates cyber rescue teams to assist victims quickly. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will set up a team of top cybersecurity experts by the end of November, and the government will strengthen its ability to access servers used by hackers under the active cyber defence framework legalised in October.

The government says the measures are designed to build a resilient society in which the public and private sectors share information, assist the affected swiftly and recover from damage, including AI-driven vulnerability sweeps of critical infrastructure by March.
