Singapore Agencies Warn on Personal AI Agents: They Can Book and Send for You, and Leak Your Privacy Too

Singapore's Cyber Security Agency (CSA), GovTech and Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) issued a joint warning on November 6 that personal artificial intelligence agents could pose significant privacy and security risks, and that they should not be treated as human assistants and given the same broad access to information and trust.
Unlike traditional AI chatbots, personal AI agents can perform actions on a user's behalf, including managing email, making reservations, logging in to online accounts and even sending messages. A CSA spokesperson said AI agents can be very useful, but they should not be treated as human assistants and given the same broad access to information and trust.
The three agencies urged users to understand the risks before granting agents access to accounts and personal information. As AI agents spread quickly in Singapore and worldwide, setting permission boundaries has become a new question for regulators and the public alike.
