Russian Deputy FM Pankin: US Wants Putin at Miami G20 Summit, Russia Will Send High-Level Delegation

Moscow — Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin told TASS on November 7 that the United States wants Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the Group of 20 (G20) leaders' summit in Miami in December, and that Russia will be represented by a high-level delegation regardless of the final lineup.

Pankin said the composition of the Russian delegation will be determined the day before the summit, in accordance with standard practice. He said the invitation is part of the United States' responsibilities as the summit's chair, and that Russia intends to take an active part in the meeting.

The summit is scheduled for December 14-15 at the Trump National Doral golf club in Miami. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio formally invited Putin in September; Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on October 22 that Russia would review the invitation and had not yet made a decision. If Putin attends, it would be his first in-person appearance at a G20 summit since Osaka in 2019.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov already attended the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Atlanta at the end of October, and President Trump has said he will invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the December summit. Whether Putin travels to the United States in person remains for the Kremlin to announce. (Source: TASS)
