Follow-Up: UFC Vegas 124 Tonight in Las Vegas — Heavyweight Main Event Tops the Card as Cortes-Acosta Outweighs Walker by 23 Pounds
Las Vegas, in Clark County, Nevada, hosts UFC Vegas 124 tonight at Meta APEX, a 14-bout Fight Night card headlined by a heavyweight main event between No. 6-ranked Waldo Cortes Acosta and Johnny Walker. At Friday's official weigh-ins, Cortes-Acosta tipped the scales at 262 pounds to Walker's 239 — a 23-pound gap — and all 28 fighters on the card made weight, leaving the lineup intact with no changes.
The heavyweight bout was not the original main event. As GSM reported earlier, the planned welterweight headliner between Sean Brady and Gabriel Bonfim lost Brady to injury, and the UFC elevated Cortes-Acosta vs. Walker to the top of the card. Cortes-Acosta, 17-4, headlines a UFC card for the first time. Walker, 23-10 with one no-contest, knocked out Mick Parkin in the first round of his heavyweight debut in October and takes his fifth UFC main event on nine days' notice.
The co-main event is a strawweight clash between top-five contenders Virna Jandiroba and Tatiana Suarez, who weighed in at 116 and 115.5 pounds respectively. The UFC says the winner will make her case for a shot at strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern. The rest of the main card features Mitch Raposo vs. Marcos Degli, Priscila Cachoeira vs. Nina Milošević, Billy Elekana vs. Lucas Fernando, and Davey Grant vs. Elijah Smith.
The prelims start at 5 p.m. Eastern (2 p.m. Pacific), followed by the main card at 8 p.m. Eastern (5 p.m. Pacific), with the full event streaming live on Paramount+ in the United States. (Source: UFC)
