Trump Orders Justice Department to Investigate Democrats, Calling Impeachment Threats a Criminal Act

Saturday, November 7, 2026 · White House · GSM News

President Donald Trump, in Washington on Saturday, November 7, ordered the U.S. Department of Justice to immediately look into Democrats in a post on his Truth Social platform. Trump wrote that Democrats are threatening many people, including the attorney general of the United States and Republican donors, with impeachment and other forms of punishment, and that threatening letters have been sent to many innocent people by Democratic political leaders. The story is still developing.

"This is extortion at the highest level, and they should be held accountable for this," Trump wrote. He named Senator Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, saying she is going to go after young people who believe in Republican values. The post ended: "By copy of this statement, I am ordering the Department of Justice to look into this criminal act, immediately!" The post was published at 12:45 p.m. Eastern Time on November 7.

Reuters reported the post the same day and noted that Trump provided no evidence in it for claims such as the threatening letters. As of publication, the Justice Department had not issued a formal announcement of a case or investigation in response to the post. The directive was given in a social media post, and how the department, led by Attorney General Todd Blanche, will respond remains to be seen.

The statement came after the midterm elections, in which Democrats regained control of both the House and the Senate on November 3. The new Congress convenes in January, when Democrats will hold subpoena and oversight power in the committees. Several Democratic lawmakers have said publicly in recent days that they will investigate matters involving the administration in the new Congress. After Trump announced on Friday that Stephen Miller would become White House chief of staff, Representative Robert Garcia said publicly that Miller should "lawyer up."

Slotkin said at a University of Chicago event on October 13 that if Democrats regained Congress they should use oversight to pursue signature corruption cases and send a "deterrence message" to young people considering jobs in the Trump administration. She later called the criticism manufactured outrage and said Democrats would pursue only people who actually broke the law. (Source: Donald Trump)
