Japanese Bamboo Art Exhibition Opens Nov. 7 at Dallas Museum of Asian Art; 22 Works Including Two Living National Treasures

DALLAS, Texas — The exhibition 'Twist, Weave, Sculpt: Japanese Bamboo Art' opened on November 7 at the Crow Museum of Asian Art in Dallas and runs through October 17, 2027. It is the museum's first collaboration with the Dallas-based Carl and Marilyn Thoma Foundation, showing 22 Japanese bamboo works by 17 artists, including two designated Living National Treasures of Japan, Noboru Fujinuma and Shosei Fujitsuka. Curated by the museum's Dr. Natalia DiPietrantonio, the exhibition is organized into four sections — 'Reimagining the Basket,' 'Abstraction,' 'Spiral' and 'Vertical' — tracing bamboo weaving's evolution from traditional craft to contemporary sculpture. The Thoma Foundation, founded in 2014 and based in Dallas with a public space in Santa Fe, said it is pleased to partner with the museum to present the collection to North Texas audiences in a new way. The museum, at 2010 Flora Street in the Dallas Arts District, is open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Mondays, with free admission.
