The 4th annual National Veterans Parade steps off today, Sunday, November 8, on Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C. The National Veterans Parade Foundation said opening ceremonies begin at 11:30 a.m., with the parade itself stepping off at noon in front of the National Archives and proceeding along Constitution Avenue toward the White House. Admission is free.

This year's grand marshal is Robert Kiyosaki, who served as a Marine Corps helicopter pilot in Vietnam and is the author of the bestselling personal-finance book Rich Dad Poor Dad. According to a release from U.S. Representative Jim Baird's office, more than 150 units are expected to march, including marching bands, active-duty ceremonial and performing units, historic military vehicles and floats. A replica of the Vietnam-era gun truck Brutus will also roll down Constitution Avenue, honoring the soldiers who defended supply convoys during the war. The announced theme is “Because of Our Veterans — Our Nation Is Celebrating 250 Years.”

The day begins at 8 a.m. with the NVP 5K run and walk, starting and finishing near the National Archives at Constitution Avenue and 7th Street NW along the parade route. Organizers said street closures around the parade area begin as early as 4 a.m. and run until about 6 p.m., street parking is very limited, and spectators are encouraged to take Metro's Green or Yellow lines to Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter station.

The National Veterans Parade Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, said the parade receives no federal funding and is produced entirely through sponsors, private donations and volunteers. The national Veterans Day observance will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on November 11. (Source: National Veterans Parade Foundation)
