Duke Routs NC State 41-3 as Nate Sheppard Runs for 217 Yards and a Record 3 Touchdowns
RALEIGH, North Carolina — Duke's football team crushed NC State 41-3 at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh on November 7, its third straight win. Running back Nate Sheppard scored on a 69-yard run just four plays into the game and finished with 217 yards and 3 touchdowns on 18 carries, breaking Duke's single-season rushing touchdown record and becoming the second player in school history with two 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Quarterback Walker Eget completed 22 of 31 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown. Duke improved to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the ACC — its best start since opening 8-1 in 2014 — in head coach Manny Diaz's 25th win at Duke, and its first victory over an in-state opponent this season. NC State managed only 3 points all day. Duke travels to Miami next week, still chasing a conference title berth.
