Adams National Historical Park in Quincy, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, will mark Veterans Day on November 11 with a full day of special programs commemorating the service and sacrifice of veterans and exploring the Adams family's historic ties to the U.S. military, the National Park Service (NPS) announced on October 30. November 11 is also a fee-free day across the National Park Service, including at Adams National Historical Park.

"John Adams is often considered the 'Father of the United States Navy,' and the park is proud to continue to support the Navy and all branches of the U.S. military," said Superintendent Marianne Peak. This year, as part of the country's 250th anniversary commemoration, the park is celebrating the contributions of John, Abigail and John Quincy Adams to the founding of the nation and recognizing the men and women who have defended the United States for more than 250 years, she said.

Free programs on John Adams's role in the founding of the U.S. Navy will be held at 2:30 and 4 p.m. on the grounds outside the Carriage House at Peace field, 135 Adams St., Quincy, with no reservations required. Guided tours of the Old House at Peace field and the Stone Library will offer visitors a look at the Adams family's lives and their contributions to the nation across generations; reservations are required and are available only in person, on a first-come, first-served basis, at the National Park Service Visitor Center, 1250 Hancock St., Quincy.

Veterans, Gold Star Families, active-duty military personnel and their dependents may obtain free America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Passes at the visitor center. Large bags, food and beverages are not permitted inside the historic buildings. Visitors may park at the visitor center and walk or ride the park trolley about half a mile to Peace field; trolley service will be suspended during the Quincy Veterans Day Parade, from approximately 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The historic homes are not climate controlled, and visitors should dress for cold temperatures; programs may be modified or cancelled due to inclement weather or unsafe conditions. The visitor center and the historic homes are open Wednesday through Sunday, and the 2026 tour season continues through November 13. The Adams Farm at Penn's Hill, home to the John Adams and John Quincy Adams birthplaces, remains closed for a major landscape restoration project and is scheduled to reopen in spring 2027.
