LEXINGTON, Kentucky — No. 23 Kentucky beat James Madison 89-80 at Rupp Arena on the night of November 6 to start the new season 2-0. Zum Diallo and Alex Wilkins led Kentucky with 16 points apiece, and Justin McBride added 13 points and a game-high 8 rebounds. James Madison's Brandon Lee scored a career-high 26 points and gave Kentucky plenty of trouble in a game with 18 lead changes and 5 ties. Kentucky opened the second half with a 15-3 run, flipping a 56-54 deficit into a 69-59 lead, and took control with 10 minutes left, holding the advantage to the final buzzer. Diallo, a guard who transferred from Washington this summer, was praised after the game by head coach Mark Pope, who thanked the fans for backing Diallo through his ups and downs. Kentucky next faces Kansas on Tuesday, November 10, at a neutral site in Chicago.
