Follow-Up: Lions Place Linebacker Jack Campbell on Injured Reserve; Still Hospitalized with Neck Injury

DETROIT, Michigan — The Detroit Lions officially placed star linebacker Jack Campbell on injured reserve on November 7, the latest step after his serious neck injury. Campbell was hurt last week in the Lions' win over the Minnesota Vikings: on the first defensive snap of the fourth quarter, his head struck tight end T.J. Hockenson's hip as he made a tackle, and he was carried off on a stretcher and taken to a hospital, where he remains under observation, though head coach Dan Campbell said on November 6 that he is improving. In a November 4 statement, Jack Campbell said he has regained full movement in his lower body. The Lions also signed defensive back Nick Whiteside from the practice squad to the active roster and elevated edge rusher Anthony Lucas and running back Jabari Small from the practice squad. Campbell is the core of Detroit's defense and his absence is a major loss. The Lions, 5-2, say they will play for Campbell this week.
