SALEM, Oregon — Unofficial results released by Oregon's Marion County on the evening of November 6 show both county commissioner races tightening further. In the first seat, Republican incumbent Kevin Cameron leads Democratic challenger Sarah Duncan 47,983 votes (50.36%) to 47,219 (49.56%), a margin narrowed from 1,009 votes the day before to 764. In the second seat, Republican incumbent Colm Willis leads Democratic challenger Maria Hinojosa Pressey 47,682 (50.22%) to 47,164 (49.68%), with the lead shrinking from 765 to 518. Of the 7,348 ballots added on the 6th, Democrats outpaced Republicans by about 3.4 percentage points in both races. The county has counted 97,699 ballots so far, with about 43,800 of the 141,508 received ballots still uncounted. County Clerk Bill Burgess said the next results will be released on the evenings of November 9 and 10, certification must be completed by November 30, and voters with signature problems must cure them by November 24. The slow count is partly tied to an election-night envelope-sorting machine failure of about six hours; no Democrat has been elected a Marion County commissioner since 1976. The Keizer City Council's sixth seat is also close, with Daniel Kohler leading his opponent by 66 votes, 4,660 to 4,594.
