The 18th annual Miami Beach Veterans Day Parade steps off at 11:11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11, on Ocean Drive from 5th to 15th streets in Miami Beach, Miami-Dade County, Florida. The City of Miami Beach called it the largest parade of the day in South Florida, featuring veteran and military groups, marching bands, musical and dance performances, local businesses and community organizations.

The 11:11 a.m. start marks the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, when the World War I armistice took effect. This year's theme is “Forever Honored,” part of the city's America 250 celebration. At 12:15 p.m. the celebration moves to Lummus Park for a ceremony with a presentation of colors by the Miami Beach Police and Fire Department Honor Guards, the national anthem, a moment of silence, a 21-gun salute, taps and a wreath-laying, with remarks by U.S. Southern Command representatives and elected officials and the unveiling of the restored Fire Station No. 4 Flag Box by Miami Beach Girl Scouts. Participation has grown from about 50 people to more than 1,000, the city said.

“Veterans Day holds profound meaning in Miami Beach. During World War II, our city was one of the nation's largest training centers for American service members,” said Mayor Steven Meiner. “Many returned after the war to raise families, build businesses and help shape the Miami Beach we know today.” Ahead of the parade, from November 2 to 10, the public can upload photos of handwritten letters or short videos of thanks through the city's America 250 page, with submissions projected onto The Betsy Orb each evening from 6 to 11 p.m. On November 11 from 9 a.m. to noon, unsealed gratitude letters can be dropped off at the registration tent at 5th Street and Ocean Drive, with a Forever Honored commemorative hat for donors while supplies last.
