New York Subway A Trains Suspended for Nine Days in Queens for Signal Modernization

NEW YORK — Subway riders in Queens face nine days of changed service. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced that, for signal modernization work, A trains will not run between Rockaway Blvd and Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd from 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, to 5 a.m. on Monday, November 16.
During the suspension, trains that would normally run to Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd are rerouted to Howard Beach-JFK Airport. Free shuttle buses will serve the 104 St, 111 St and Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd stations at all times, stopping at both ends of the suspended segment, and riders transfer between trains and buses at Rockaway Blvd, which is an accessible station. For service between Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, A trains continue to run between Inwood-207 St and Far Rockaway-Mott Av or Howard Beach-JFK Airport.
The MTA said the outage begins signal modernization on the Fulton and Liberty lines, which carry the A and C trains between Jay St-MetroTech and Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd. Some of the signals on these lines were first installed in the 1930s, and replacing them with a modern communications-based train control system will enable better service through Brooklyn and Queens. Crews will also replace switches and track near 104 St during the outage. (Source: Metropolitan Transportation Authority)
