Nebraska Sen. Brad von Gillern Concedes; District 4 Flip Ends Republican Supermajority

OMAHA, Nebraska — The race for Nebraska's Legislative District 4 was settled on November 6 as incumbent Republican state Sen. Brad von Gillern conceded to nonpartisan candidate Cindy Maxwell-Ostdiek.
Unofficial results from the Secretary of State's office gave Maxwell-Ostdiek 9,099 votes to von Gillern's 8,729, out of 17,828 cast. Maxwell-Ostdiek represents western Omaha and the Elkhorn area; the district covers part of Douglas County. Von Gillern had been favored to become Speaker of the Legislature, succeeding the term-limited John Arch. His defeat costs Republicans their supermajority in the Legislature.
The Secretary of State's office will certify the final results on November 30.
