New Jersey's Pulaski Skyway Fully Closed in Both Directions for Pier Work, Reopening Early November 9

Sunday, November 8, 2026 · States · GSM News

KEARNY, New Jersey — The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced that the 93-year-old Pulaski Skyway, linking Newark and Jersey City, closed in both directions at 11 p.m. on November 6 and will reopen at 5 a.m. on November 9, so crews can install temporary supports and replace a bridge pier.

The closure allows jacking operations for the replacement of Pier 75, between Central Avenue and Hackensack Avenue in Kearny; the Kearny on- and off-ramps closed on the evening of November 6 for several months. The work is part of Contract 6A, which will replace the large concrete Piers 71 through 75. During the closure, northbound traffic is detoured after Newark Liberty International Airport onto the local lanes of Routes 1 and 9, and the department advises drivers to check 511nj.org for real-time conditions.

The department said the closure is necessary to install temporary supports for the jacking operation, and that two-way traffic will resume once the work is complete.
