[Video] Qiao Xin and Li Li Celebrate 40th Wedding Anniversary in Los Angeles: 250 Guests Attend as State Treasurer Fiona Ma Presents Award
LOS ANGELES — On November 1, Qiao Xin (James Chiao), a Chinese-American singer long based in the United States, and his wife Li Li (Lily Chiao) celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, with about 250 guests from China and abroad in attendance. California State Treasurer Fiona Ma came in person to offer her congratulations and present the couple with an award.
According to Qiao, the celebration featured a program of cultural performances — elegant, humorous and splendid — and an award presentation during the banquet. Qiao edited the evening into a roughly three-minute video report, "Qiao Xin and Li Li's 40th Wedding Anniversary Banquet," and posted it to his YouTube channel, Xin Chiao; the main video with this story is that report.
On November 7, Qiao released a companion piece, a roughly three-minute short film titled "The Love Story of Lily & James Chiao." In it, the two recount their early years: Qiao was a fisherman in his youth, and Li Li, at the age of ten, once presented flowers to Prince Sihanouk of Cambodia. The two later met and built their life together, marrying in the United States in 1986 and spending 40 years together since.
In the short film, Qiao Xin and Li Li also share, in their own words, what they see as the secret to a happy marriage, reflecting on four decades together.
Qiao is the younger son of the late composer and conductor Qiao Fei. He has lived in the U.S. for many years and founded the Yunxin Chorus in America in 2021. In October, his Cantonese song "Eating in Guangzhou" played on the big screen at Guangzhou Gourmet Week, at the same Haixinsha venue where his father's classic "Moonlight" was performed 16 years earlier, as GSM reported at the time.
