Rhode Island Opens New Round of Placemaking Initiative Applications, Due December 2

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — Rhode Island Commerce announced on November 6 that a new round of applications has opened for the state's Placemaking Initiative, with submissions due by 11:59 p.m. on December 2, 2026.
The Placemaking Initiative is a statewide economic development program that uses arts and cultural investment to transform public spaces, draw foot traffic and visitors, and support local businesses, especially in the restaurant and tourism sectors. The program funds public-space improvement projects through grants; applications must be submitted through the online platform designated by Rhode Island Commerce, and details are available on the initiative's page on the agency's website.
Rhode Island Commerce said the program aims to turn public spaces into more attractive gathering places and lift surrounding business activity. Community organizations and businesses interested in applying must submit by the December 2 deadline; late submissions will not be accepted. Review and award results will be announced after the deadline.
