Follow-Up: Witnesses Say Aramco Building in Riyadh's Financial District Was Damaged in Missile Attack as Coalition Reports Four Interceptions on Sunday

RIYADH — Witnesses told Agence France-Presse on November 8 that Riyadh's King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) was targeted on Sunday morning and that a building belonging to Saudi Aramco in the district was damaged. One witness said the Aramco tower in KAFD "was targeted, that is certain," and two other witnesses confirmed seeing damage to the glass building. The extent of the damage was not specified, and initial reports mentioned no casualties.
Major General Turki al-Maliki, spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition, said Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis toward Riyadh on Sunday. Saudi Arabia's Defence Ministry later said two cruise missiles were also intercepted over Riyadh and the country's southern region.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree had claimed on Saturday that the group carried out six missile and drone operations targeting King Khalid International Airport, Aramco oil storage tanks and a distillation tower in Riyadh, Aramco facilities in Khurais, and Pumping Station No. 8 in the Dawadmi area. Those claims have not been independently verified.
The attacks followed Saudi airstrikes on a village east of Sanaa on Saturday, where Yemen's health authorities said the death toll had risen to 33. GSM's first report late Saturday recorded the interceptions and explosions over Riyadh with no damage reported at that time; the damage in the financial district is a new layer that emerged on Sunday morning.
