SAN FRANCISCO, California — A free night walking tour of Chinatown's alleyways was held in San Francisco's Chinatown on Saturday, November 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., leading residents through the neighborhood's back lanes and the edge of North Beach after dark.

The tour set out from the Dragon Gate, the main entrance to Chinatown, and lasted about 90 minutes, passing old association buildings and alleyways before ending in the blocks adjoining North Beach. Organizers said that as the main streets of Chinatown quiet down after nightfall it is the perfect time to set out, and participants could learn about Chinatown's historic buildings and community stories along the way. The tour was free on a tip basis, with no registration required.

San Francisco's Chinatown is one of the oldest Chinese communities in North America, and guided walking tours have become an important way for visitors and local residents alike to learn about its culture in recent years. Organizers reminded participants that the tour is an outdoor walk and advised dressing warmly for the night and arriving on time.
