West Virginia to Mail Low-Income Energy Assistance Applications Starting November 2

Saturday, October 31, 2026 · States · GSM News

The West Virginia Department of Human Services' Bureau for Family Assistance announced October 31 that it will begin mailing applications for the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) on November 2.

The mailing goes to households that received regular LIEAP benefits last heating season, and to households with children under 6, adults aged 60 or older, or a person with a disability. Pre-applications are due by November 25 and can be returned by mail, delivered to a local department office, or completed online through the state website. Funds are limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and officials encourage eligible households to apply early.

The maximum benefit is $2,000 per household. Monthly income limits for federal fiscal year 2027 rise with household size: $2,550 for one person, $3,335 for two, $4,120 for three, $4,904 for four and $8,385 for ten, plus $710 for each additional person; Social Security and veterans' benefits are not counted. Applicants heating with a regulated utility must provide a recent utility bill, and bulk-fuel households must provide supplier proof and receipts. Residents can contact a local department office or call client services at 1-800-642-8589.
