Follow-Up: Camp Pendleton Henderson Fire Grows to About 150 Acres; Still No Evacuations Outside the Base

Thursday, October 15, 2026 · California · GSM News

CAMP PENDLETON — The Henderson Fire, a brush fire burning inside Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Diego County, has continued to grow. According to an incident update posted at 3:23 p.m. on October 15 by AlertSanDiego, the county's official alert platform, the Camp Pendleton Fire Department remains at the scene of the vegetation fire near Henderson Street on the base, and Cal Fire puts the burned area at about 150 acres — double the roughly 75 acres reported by incident command at 2:44 p.m. in GSM's first report. The update also states clearly that there are currently no evacuations outside of Camp Pendleton.

The evacuation picture has two layers. Inside the base, the evacuation order the base issued earlier, as infrastructure came under threat, remains the latest official word; officials have not announced any lifting. There has been no new official word on whether power has been restored in the Las Pulgas (Area 43) part of the base. Outside the base, AlertSanDiego says there are no evacuations, and as of publication the surrounding communities of Oceanside, Fallbrook and Bonsall remain free of evacuation orders or warnings.

On the firefight, the Camp Pendleton Fire Department and mutual-aid resources continue to work the fire from the ground and the air. As of publication, officials had not announced a containment percentage and had issued no new reports of injuries or structures damaged; no closures of off-base roads such as Interstate 5 had been announced. The cause of the fire has not been announced. This story will be updated as official figures are released.

Background: the fire was logged at about 1:55 p.m. in the area of Brown Street and Henderson Street on the base. An on-scene estimate at about 2:39 p.m. put it at roughly 10 to 15 acres; by 2:44 p.m. it had grown to about 75 acres, spreading rapidly with structures threatened on its southern side, and air attack requested two additional air tankers. The base then issued an evacuation order inside the installation, power went out in the Area 43 (Las Pulgas) area, and cameras in the ALERTCalifornia network, operated by UC San Diego and San Diego Gas & Electric, showed a large column of smoke rising over the fire. GSM's first report covered the initial fire conditions and evacuations; this is a follow-up on the same incident thread. This incident is separate from the May 2025 wildfire of the same name that burned near Pala in San Diego County.
