Trump Gives Netanyahu His Complete and Total Endorsement Ahead of Israel's Oct. 27 Election, With a Warning to Iran

President Donald Trump on Oct. 18 publicly endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for reelection in Israel's Oct. 27 parliamentary election, writing on social media that Netanyahu 'has been a Great Warrior Prime Minister, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combatting the Islamic Republic of Iran.' 'Please let this Letter serve to represent my Complete and Total Endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu in his upcoming Race for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Israel,' Trump wrote.
In the same post, Trump again warned Iran that unless it changes its ways rapidly, the United States will 'soon finish the job,' adding that if Israel has 'the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so.' Israel votes on Oct. 27 in its first national election since the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attack. In February, the United States and Israel jointly launched a war against Iran that has now continued for nearly eight months.
Netanyahu thanked Trump on X the same day, writing: 'Thank you, President Trump, for the tremendous support and work together. Together we will complete the mission.' His Likud party attached a 35-second video of the two leaders together. Trump told Axios he had always intended to endorse Netanyahu: 'I was always going to do that. I just didn't want to do it too soon.'
Netanyahu's main rival, former Israel Defense Forces chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot, responded that Israel's next prime minister should be chosen by Israeli voters, not by Trump. Trump had withheld an endorsement for weeks and told Time magazine earlier this month that he was 'not involved in politics anymore.'
In the post, Trump also wrote: 'Bibi Netanyahu has been Strong, Brave, and Brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition, including that coming from even Israel, itself. This is the kind of Partner that the United States of America is demanding of Israel, a Country for which it has done so much.'
