The man who stepped in to stop the gunman in the shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Deschutes County, Oregon, on October 15 was publicly identified on October 25. According to an October 25 report by OK! magazine, the man is Kaylub Giamanco, who shot and killed the 16-year-old suspect.

On October 15, the 16-year-old gunman opened fire at Silver Rail Elementary School, killing a 25-year-old adult and three students aged 5, 8 and 11, and seriously injuring a 54-year-old teacher and a 7-year-old student. At a news conference several hours after the shooting, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek praised the then-unnamed man, saying his heroic intervention had prevented further loss of life: "For the community member who heroically intervened and stopped more loss of life, your actions carry a heavy emotional burden, and I just want you to know that my heart is with you."

The identification of Giamanco puts a name to the act of heroism in a campus shooting that shook Oregon, and allows the community to thank him; the investigation into the case and the recovery of the victims' families are ongoing.
