Travel: Culvert Work on Dyea Road at Alaska's Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park Through November 23, With Alternating One-Lane Traffic and Closures

The National Park Service announced on October 7 that Dyea Flats Road in Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, at Skagway, Alaska, will undergo culvert replacement and road repairs near Slide Cemetery and the Lost Lake trailhead from October 15 to November 23, to improve drainage and reduce the risk of the road washing out in extreme flooding.
From October 15 to 23, traffic will be one lane with flaggers. From October 24 to November 17, two full-closure phases will follow, first for a smaller culvert taking about five to seven days, then a larger one taking about 10 to 12 days, with at least three days of reopening expected in between. One-lane traffic resumes from November 18 to 23.
During full closures, visitors can park at the Chilkoot trailhead and walk to the Dyea townsite, Slide Cemetery and Dyea Flats. Exact closure dates are updated on the park's Alerts and Conditions page as work progresses.
