Friday, October 30, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent held a press conference in St. Cloud, in Stearns County, Minnesota, on October 30 with FBI Director Kash Patel, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, and Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson to make an announcement as part of the Trump Administration's War on Fraud, the Treasury Department said. The press conference began at 2 p.m. Eastern (11 a.m. Pacific) and was livestreamed on the Vice President's official X account.

Vice President JD Vance, who leads the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, had been scheduled to appear but canceled his Minnesota trip on the evening of October 29 with no explanation given, according to U.S. media reports; the event went ahead in St. Cloud with Bessent taking the lead.

The War on Fraud is the Trump administration's cross-agency anti-fraud effort. President Trump signed an executive order in March creating the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, pointing to Medicaid fraud in Minnesota, and the White House unveiled a fraud whistleblower incentive program in October. The Treasury Department did not disclose the specific announcement in advance in its advisories.
