Trump Says He May Move the White House Press Corps, Denying a Plan to Demolish the Press Room for a Pool

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on Saturday, October 24, 2026, that he may move the White House press corps to a different location. According to Reuters, Trump dismissed in a social media post a report that he planned to remove the White House press room and restore a historic swimming pool on the site, saying he had never “even thought to do such a stupid thing.” But he said the press corps could be relocated from its current position: “I may move the Fake News to a less obnoxious location,” he wrote.

The remarks followed a New York Times report on Tuesday that Trump had urged then-press secretary Karoline Leavitt in August to move news conferences out of the White House's James S. Brady Press Briefing Room, although the idea was never implemented. The Times also reported that Trump would rather restore an indoor therapy pool installed at the site during Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration; the Nixon administration later replaced the pool with the press briefing room.

Trump has regularly accused U.S. media of unfair reporting about his administration. Last month he briefly banned journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico from White House grounds; their access was reinstated after a federal judge deemed the ban likely unconstitutional, although the administration is still contesting the case.
