Follow-Up: Dana White Has Declined Trump's Press Secretary Offer, a Source Says; He Plans to Meet the President on Monday

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump used a Truth Social post on Saturday, November 7, to offer the White House press secretary job to Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White, asking him to bring six fighters along as assistants, as GSM reported earlier in the day. Hours later, CNN, citing a source familiar with the matter, reported that White had declined the offer; Reuters' account of the offer also noted the reported refusal. Neither White nor the UFC has commented on the record.
In his post, Trump called White "a violent Fighter and Warrior" and named six current or former champions — Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harrison — as the requested assistants, saying, "We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left," and closing with "Dana, please take the job!" White House communications director Steven Cheung reposted the message, adding, "Hell yeah! Do it, @DanaWhite!" One White House aide told reporters the president had been joking about the offer.
Asked about the offer at a UFC news conference on Saturday, White deflected, saying only that he plans to fly to Washington on Monday to meet with Trump. TMZ reported that the two are set to discuss the matter in person next week.
The press secretary's job has been vacant since October 16: Katie Zacharia left the role after five days, having succeeded Karoline Leavitt, and the search for a successor continues.
