FDA Raises Gluten-Free Baking Mix Recall to Class I, Its Highest Risk Level: 4,664 Bags Affected

Monday, November 2, 2026 · Life · GSM News

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified a recall of three gluten-free baking mixes made by Washington-based GF Blends as Class I, the agency's most serious risk level, meaning there is a reasonable probability that eating the products could cause serious health consequences. The recall covers 4,664 bags sold nationwide through the brands' own websites and Amazon, with sales running through September 12, 2026.

In the company announcement posted by the FDA, GF Blends said on September 18 that it was recalling Truly AIP All Purpose Flour, Truly AIP Bread Mix and EAT G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R. Flat Bread Pizza Mix because they may contain undeclared wheat gluten. People who have celiac disease or a severe gluten intolerance run the risk of adverse health effects or allergic reactions if they consume the products.

The announcement said the mixes were made with plantain flour supplied by PMF Global that was labeled and certified gluten free. Independent third-party testing, however, confirmed the plantain flour contained gluten, and the finished products all tested at levels significantly exceeding the FDA's 20 parts per million threshold for gluten-free labeling, meaning they contain undeclared wheat gluten. The company said it would test further to confirm for wheat gluten.

The affected lots are: Truly AIP All Purpose Flour, 15.3 oz, lots 260225 (best by February 25, 2028) and 260610 (June 10, 2028); Truly AIP Bread Mix, 14 oz, lots 260417 (April 17, 2028) and 260617 (December 17, 2027); and EAT G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R. Flat Bread Pizza Mix, 163 g and 3.98 lb, lots 260327 (July 27 and September 27, 2027) and 260803 (February 3, 2028). FDA enforcement records put the quantities at about 1,495 bags of the all purpose flour, 986 bags of the bread mix and 2,183 bags of the pizza mix.

The company said it had received no reports of adverse health effects as of September 17, 2026. Upon confirmation of the contamination, it immediately notified affected customers, placed the impacted lots on hold and initiated the recall. Consumers with celiac disease or a severe wheat gluten intolerance should not consume the recalled products; the products can be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund or discarded. Questions can go to GF Blends at 509-375-0909, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT, or [email protected]. The recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the FDA.
