Steelers Tight End Darnell Washington Fined $14,926 for Touchdown Celebration in Paris Win Over Saints

Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania — The NFL's Week 7 fines, announced on October 31, included a $14,926 fine for Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Darnell Washington for his touchdown celebration against the New Orleans Saints, cited as unsportsmanlike conduct for illegal celebrations and vulgar acts. NFL reporter Tom Pelissero's October 31 post of the fine said the celebration involved showing off the size of his footballs after the touchdown.
Washington caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the Steelers' 16-10 win over the Saints in Paris in Week 7, giving Pittsburgh a 10-3 lead in the second quarter; it was his only reception of the game, for four yards. The same fine list included a $4,916 fine for wide receiver Brandon Smith for use of the helmet.
The Steelers are 5-2 and next host the Cleveland Browns. The fine does not affect Washington's eligibility to play in that game, as league fines are a routine disciplinary process.
