A Bellevue Dad's Profanity-Laced Tirade Over a Gospel Tract in His Son's Halloween Candy Goes Viral

On Halloween night, October 31, a Christian family in Bellevue, King County, Washington, handed out trick-or-treat bags that included a gospel tract headlined "Jesus loves you so much." After a father found the tract in his son's candy bag, he came back to the family's home and unleashed a profanity-laced tirade that was caught on video. Journalist Jonathan Choe posted the clip on X on November 2, where it spread rapidly, and U.S. outlets including the New York Post followed up.
In the video, the unidentified father stands in front of the home accusing the family of trying to convert children, saying, "Don't try to convert kids on a holiday." He struck a crucifixion pose in mockery and shouted that people of other religions lived nearby and did not need to hear about it. His young son sat in the family's parked Tesla throughout, first in the front passenger seat and then climbing into the back.
The tract that sparked the confrontation is divided into four sections titled "God loves you," "We disobeyed God," "Jesus made a way" and "Jesus is Lord," and includes a short prayer. According to the New York Post, the family that handed out the bags said days later that they were still shaken by the encounter; they have not been publicly named. The recording does not show what happened before or after the tirade.
Choe's post drew heavy online engagement, with viewers debating whether religious material belongs in children's Halloween candy and whether the father's reaction went too far. Bellevue sits across Lake Washington from Seattle, is a tech hub in King County, and is home to one of the Seattle area's larger Chinese communities.
