Indonesia Stresses National Resilience as Foundation of Global Resilience at G20 Meeting

Indonesia stressed the importance of strengthening national resilience as the foundation for regional and global resilience at the Group of Twenty (G20) foreign ministers' meeting in Atlanta, the United States, Antara reported on November 1, citing a written statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in Jakarta on Sunday. 'National resilience strengthens regional resilience, which in turn strengthens global resilience,' Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir said.
The meeting, held on October 30-31, was part of the programme of the United States' G20 presidency, which will culminate in the G20 Summit in Miami in December 2026. Arrmanatha Nasir, who took office as foreign minister on October 1, took part in three plenary sessions covering geopolitical issues, energy and supply chains.
In the geopolitical session, he highlighted the significant impact of conflicts between countries on developing nations, including Indonesia, and urged all parties to pursue de-escalation, prioritise dialogue and build positive cooperation. Indonesia also emphasised respect for the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) as the international legal basis guaranteeing freedom of navigation.
In the energy session, he said energy resilience was part of national resilience, and that Indonesia was strengthening energy self-sufficiency through its B50 biodiesel programme and the construction of 100-gigawatt solar power plants. 'Crises must accelerate the energy transition, not reverse it,' he said.
In the supply-chain session, Indonesia underscored the importance of certainty in global supply chains and a stronger multilateral trading system, proposing better preparedness and affordable long-term financing. He said global supply chains needed more production centres, particularly in developing countries, to strengthen technology partnerships benefiting developing nations. On the sidelines, he held bilateral meetings with counterparts from Türkiye, Russia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Saudi Arabia and several other countries. (Source: GSM·USA)
