Mississippi Attorney General Rules Walmart Parking Lot Shooting That Killed 1-Year-Old Justified; Family Demands Video Release

Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch's office has determined that the June 2026 shooting outside a Walmart in Senatobia — in which a law enforcement officer shot and killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley — was a justified use of force, and no prosecution will follow. The decision was announced October 19.
The child's mother denies that she drove at officers, and the family's attorney, Van Turner, said the ruling leaves key questions unanswered. Activist Marquell Bridges and other supporters are pressing officials to release surveillance video of the encounter.
The attorney general's review is the state's final word on criminal liability in the case; the family has said it is considering civil action.
