Follow-up: Victim Identified in Fairfield Mall Shooting; Police Call It a Targeted Incident Involving One Suspect, Still at Large
FAIRFIELD, a city in Solano County, California — The Fairfield Police Department released an update on the afternoon of October 31 identifying the woman killed in the October 30 shooting inside the Spirit Halloween store at Solano Town Center as Constance Hages, 31. Police said her family told detectives she was pregnant at the time of her death, a detail that remains subject to confirmation by the Solano County Coroner.
Police also clarified the six wounded victims: all are male, aged 16 to 43. Three of them — aged 16, 19 and 32 — remained in critical condition; a 23-year-old man was in stable condition; and two victims, aged 19 and 43, had been treated and released from hospital.
Based on preliminary information, police said, the shooting stemmed from a targeted incident involving one suspect inside the store. The suspect left the mall before officers arrived and remains at large. Detectives are reviewing video footage and other evidence to identify the individual responsible. Police have not released a suspect description or a motive.
Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall told reporters on the night of October 30 that the shooting happened at about 8:30 p.m. inside the Spirit Halloween store — occupying a former Best Buy space at Solano Town Center, 1350 Travis Boulevard — where seven people were shot: one was pronounced dead at the scene and six were taken to hospitals. The FBI's Sacramento field office deployed its Evidence Response Team to assist Fairfield police. Spirit Halloween said the store will remain closed until further notice and that the company is cooperating with the investigation.
