Midtown Atlanta Road Closures Lift Through the Afternoon of Nov. 1

On November 1, road closures in Midtown Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia — imposed as the G20 foreign ministers' meeting, Halloween events and the Georgia–Florida football game overlapped — were expected to lift progressively through the afternoon of November 1. According to city road closure notices and police information, Juniper Street was closed between 11th and 13th streets, and 11th Street from Peachtree Street to Juniper Street and 12th Street from Peachtree Street to Juniper Street were also closed; combined with the crowds and traffic pouring into Midtown, congestion became severe for a time.
City officials said all barricades were expected to be removed during the afternoon of November 1 and the closed roads reopened to traffic. Downtown Atlanta had a packed weekend: the G20 foreign ministers' meeting brought security-level closures, Halloween celebrations drew large numbers of residents out, and the Georgia–Florida football game added a peak in visitor traffic. For anyone heading to Midtown, travel conditions should improve markedly after the afternoon of November 1, though morning trips should still heed detour notices and rely on the latest official road information.
