Milei Leads Argentina Week in Paris: Elysee Meeting With Macron and a Pitch to European Investors

Thursday, October 1, 2026 · World News · GSM News

PARIS - Argentine President Javier Milei headlined the second Argentina Week investor roadshow in Paris on October 1. The day's main agenda featured a multisector forum at the OECD and a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace. Milei travelled with several ministers, more than a dozen provincial governors and business executives, with energy, mining, agriculture and technology at the centre of the pitch.

French officials framed the Elysee meeting as a chance to strengthen commercial and strategic ties with a key Latin American country, with supplies of critical minerals such as lithium and copper among the topics, alongside the Mercosur agreement - on which Paris still has reservations over farming. Argentina, for its part, stressed property rights and contract sanctity, promoting its RIGI large-investment incentive regime.

During the week, France's TotalEnergies outlined a project portfolio of close to $10 billion, and mining group Eramet signalled a possible additional $350 million for Salta, subject to a final investment decision. Executives from state oil firm YPF and Italy's Eni also joined energy discussions centred on the Vaca Muerta shale formation and LNG exports.

Analysts said the real test is political continuity and legal certainty: investors welcomed the fiscal adjustment while pressing Buenos Aires on how durable the surplus is. Speaking to investors at the OECD, Milei defended his austerity course and said re-election in 2027 would make 2028 the best year in Argentina's economic history. How many of the Paris pledges reach final investment decisions will determine the trip's real yield.
