Rodriguez Receives Baker Hughes Delegation in Caracas as Gas Cooperation Takes Centre Stage in Venezuela's Energy Opening

Friday, October 2, 2026 · World News · GSM News

CARACAS - Venezuela's interim President Delcy Rodriguez received an international delegation from energy services firm Baker Hughes in Caracas on Friday, October 2, led by the company's chief executive, Lorenzo Simonelli. Officials from state oil company PDVSA and the hydrocarbons authorities took part, alongside executives from Lindsayca and New Stratus Energy.

Venezuelan outlet Alberto News reported that the talks covered operational alliances and the delivery of new projects aimed at developing Venezuela's natural gas production. The working agenda centred on evaluating infrastructure schemes for onshore gas areas and deploying technology to improve operational efficiency and cut emissions. The meeting followed a series of technical and institutional sessions between industry representatives and the Hydrocarbons Ministry.

The encounter illustrates the speed of Venezuela's energy reopening. Since January, Caracas - with U.S. backing - has been reopening its energy sector to foreign investment, with oil contracting and gas cooperation advancing in parallel. On the same day, Rodriguez also met the Inter-American Development Bank group and the National Economic Council on a development, investment and financing agenda.

Gas is widely seen as Venezuela's fastest route to monetisation: a domestic power deficit and neighbouring Colombia's gas demand both provide markets for field development and pipeline projects. The October 2 meeting was no courtesy call - on October 5 the parties announced a signed strategic alliance.
