Vietnam's GDP Expands 9.95 Percent in Third Quarter, Taking Nine-Month Growth to 9.01 Percent

Vietnam's gross domestic product expanded 9.95 percent year on year in the third quarter of 2026, the National Statistics Office said on Saturday, October 3, in figures reported by Xinhua and Reuters. The pace accelerated from 8.15 percent in the first quarter and 8.81 percent in the second, taking January-September growth to 9.01 percent.

By sector, agriculture, forestry and fisheries grew 4.21 percent in the third quarter, industry and construction expanded 12.5 percent, and services rose 9.54 percent. Over the first nine months, manufacturing value added increased 11.36 percent and construction 12.22 percent, while final consumption rose 8.51 percent and capital formation 17.88 percent.

The government has set a target of double-digit GDP growth for 2026. The third-quarter figure brings that goal within reach, while leaving a demanding final quarter in which growth must stay close to ten percent.

The other side of the expansion is prices: annual inflation reached 5.08 percent in September, above the year's 4.5 percent target. Chinese merchants in Vietnam are experiencing both sets of numbers at once — more orders and customers, alongside higher rents, fuel and labour costs.
