Netherlands Beat Serbia 2-1 Away to Top Nations League Group
The Netherlands beat Serbia 2-1 away in the Nations League on October 4, moving top of Group A2 and into a strong position to reach the quarter-finals in March. It was one of coach Xavi Hernandez's first four matches in charge.
Xavi said the team fought like a family and had to suffer, crediting Serbia's play for disrupting the Dutch possession game before a formation change improved things. His first four games began with a home draw against Germany, an away win over Serbia and a come-from-behind 2-2 draw in Greece the previous Thursday.
The Netherlands have nonetheless conceded in 12 consecutive matches. Xavi said a clean sheet would take time, that the team must improve in all areas, but that he was satisfied with the players' core values.
The Dutch next face Greece in Amsterdam on November 13 before travelling to Berlin to play Germany three days later.
