Caracas Rock Turns 25: 17,000 Runners Fill Baruta and Eastern Caracas for the 10K as Roads Close Across the Route

CARACAS - Venezuela's most popular road race, the Gatorade Caracas Rock, held its 25th edition on Sunday, October 4, bringing together about 17,000 national and international runners for a 10-kilometre event. The certified route starts near the Prados del Este highway in Baruta and finishes around Alfredo Sadel Plaza in Las Mercedes, with live bands performing at points along the course - the sport-plus-rock formula that has defined the race since its creation.
To stage the event, roads across Baruta and eastern Caracas closed in stages from Saturday night, with the Prados del Este highway restricted from dawn; the Baruta mayor's office published alternative routes and urged participants and residents to plan ahead. Local beverage, mobility and payment brands were among the event's partners.
Participant recordings of the full race day show the event back at full scale, from the kit-pickup fair to the finish-line party, with classic Venezuelan bands performing along the route and at the finish. For a capital still rebuilding after this year's earthquakes, a 17,000-strong early-morning gathering is itself a signal of urban life returning to normal.
Like running clubs in Chinese communities worldwide, the Caracas Rock is a piece of everyday civic fabric. For Chinese residents of Venezuela, whether such citywide events go ahead - and at what scale - is one of the most direct windows on local order and consumer energy.
