Metrolink Fares Rise for First Time in 13 Years; Free Rides All Day Oct. 7

Tuesday, October 6, 2026 · California · GSM News

Southern California regional rail operator Metrolink raised fares on Oct. 5, its first increase in 13 years. One-way tickets are up about 14% on average; the weekday SoCal Day Pass rose from $15 to $19, and the weekend and holiday pass from $10 to $12. The $5 LA Zone Day Pass is unchanged, and everyday discounts remain in place. Metrolink estimates that nearly 80% of one-way fares rose by no more than $1.

For riders in Riverside and San Bernardino counties commuting toward downtown Los Angeles or Orange County, monthly and 5-Day Flex passes adjust by formula, so frequent riders may want to re-check which pass offers the best value.

There is also a free day: Wednesday, Oct. 7 is California Clean Air Day, and Metrolink and Arrow trains are free systemwide with no ticket needed. Several connecting bus agencies, including LA Metro, OC Bus and Riverside Transit, are also free that day; see each agency's official notice. Metrolink runs four free-ride days a year - Transit Equity Day in February, Earth Day in April, Bike Day in May (cyclists only) and Clean Air Day in October - so tomorrow is the last free day of 2026 open to everyone.
