Sweden Confirms December Patriot Deployment to Poland to Protect NATO Logistics Hub

The Swedish government and Armed Forces confirmed on October 6 that a Patriot air and missile defence unit will deploy to south-eastern Poland in December to protect NATO's logistics hub in Rzeszow, a key node for military and civilian assistance bound for Ukraine.
The deployment turns one of Sweden's most capable national air-defence assets into a frontline contribution to collective defence, hardening infrastructure that enables Ukraine to keep receiving weapons and supplies while strengthening protection against missile and air threats.
On October 13 the government went further, submitting a bill to the Riksdag to deploy land, naval and air units to NATO deterrence and defence during 2027 — including Forward Land Forces in Finland and Latvia, maritime forces and integrated air and missile defence — and intending to keep the Patriot system in Poland into spring 2027, subject to parliamentary approval.
Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard said Europe must take much greater responsibility for its own security and that Sweden is doing so; Defence Minister Pal Jonson said the contributions strengthen the alliance's ability to defend its members.
