Vingroup and Alstom Sign Agreement Covering 200 Metro Trainsets for Hanoi

Vingroup and Alstom signed agreements on October 6 covering 200 metro trainsets, securing a vehicle supply for the 303.5-kilometre Hanoi metro programme backed by the city's October 5 resolution. The announcement did not provide a contract price, delivery calendar or detailed commissioning schedule.
Hanoi's five new lines — Lines 1, 2, 8, 10 and 14 — broke ground simultaneously in June 2026 and are targeted for operation in 2030. An order of 200 trainsets matches the capacity needs of a five-line network and makes the delivery schedule one of the key variables in whether the programme is delivered on time.
In the same week, the World Bank raised its 2026 growth forecast for Vietnam to 7.4 percent at an online briefing on October 6, the highest in East Asia and the Pacific, with the 1.1-point upgrade also the region's largest. Growth forecasts, infrastructure orders and manufacturing exports are the three pillars of Vietnam's current investment story.
For Chinese firms in Vietnam's infrastructure supply chain, the trainset agreement points to follow-on tenders in signalling, power supply, maintenance and components. For Hanoi residents, it moves the 2030 opening pledge one step from blueprint toward reality.
