ICE Agent Shoots 28-Year-Old in the Neck During Bronx Arrest Attempt; Child in Back Seat Unharmed

A 28-year-old Dominican national was shot in the neck by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in the Bronx on Thursday morning, in an incident that has drawn sharply conflicting accounts from federal officials and local leaders, the New York Post and Newsmax reported.
Oscar Belgal was sitting in his car with his 5-year-old son in the back seat near Marble Hill Avenue when ICE agents attempted to take him into custody, according to officials. The Department of Homeland Security said Belgal, wanted on a federal arrest warrant, ignored agents' orders, accelerated into two government vehicles, rammed one into another, and drove toward an officer, prompting an agent to fire defensive shots.
Belgal was hit in the neck. The 5-year-old boy in the back seat was unharmed. Belgal was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
DHS says Belgal is wanted for deportation and is an alleged member of the Trinitarios gang. Federal officials said agents fired a total of seven rounds, one of which grazed his neck.
The shooting sparked protests outside the hospital. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for a full, independent investigation, and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the operation, saying his call to the Trump administration to release Belgal went nowhere.
