Idaho Governor Signs Order Pausing Dyed-Diesel Enforcement Checks for 30 Days During Fall Harvest

Friday, October 9, 2026 · States · GSM News

Idaho Governor Little signed an executive order on October 9 to ease the burden on the state's farmers during the fall harvest, pausing state-law enforcement inspections of dyed diesel for 30 days.

Dyed diesel is tax-exempt fuel designated for off-road use, typically powering farm machinery such as tractors and combines. The pause applies to inspections under Idaho Code Section 49-676, giving farmers one less concern during the busy harvest season.

The order also directs the Idaho State Police and the Idaho Transportation Department to review how other states enforce comparable rules and to submit reform recommendations to the governor.

The Governor's Office stressed that the order does not exempt anyone from federal law or the laws of other states. The order remains in effect for 30 calendar days unless revoked or extended.
