Zelenskiy Sharpens Energy-Ceasefire Stance: Kyiv Backs Deal and Awaits U.S. Details as Russia Keeps Hitting Power Grid — 200+ Strikes in a Week

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy sharpened Kyiv's position on the energy ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday, saying Ukraine supports the deal and is waiting for details from Washington — while Russian forces kept hitting Ukrainian power infrastructure regardless, Reuters reported on Oct. 11.
"Ukraine supports the ceasefire, and it is important that Russia support it as well. We are awaiting details from the American side," Zelenskiy wrote on Telegram. He said he had discussed Trump's announcement with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and added that Ukraine fully supports steps toward de-escalation and the protection of lives.
The tone marks a shift from earlier Sunday, when Zelenskiy said Trump's announcement was news to him and instead proposed a 60-day full ceasefire in exchange for elections, as GSM reported (ukr1, ukraine1). But there was no response from Moscow as of Sunday night.
The battlefield told a different story. In his nightly video address, Zelenskiy said Russia was still launching air attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, including a strike on a combined heating and power plant in Kharkiv, the country's second-largest city. "Right now, there are Shaheds in the sky," he said, referring to Iranian-designed drones. He reported more than 200 strikes on Ukrainian generating capacity in the past week and 17 on oil and gas installations.
Zelenskiy repeated Kyiv's standing position: it is ready to halt all strikes on Russian energy installations if Russia halts attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Calling the proposed energy ceasefire "good news for everyone," he said the key is making it a reality. With the winter heating season approaching, whether Moscow responds and when Washington publishes the details are the two open questions.
